Since childhood, Abigail has been fascinated by symbolism from ancient cultures in Turkish, Mesopotamian or South American textiles and, more recently, by the collective unconscious, dreams as well as by 20th Century abstract artists who explored these themes, such as Klee and Kandinski. Since her recent yoga teacher training, Abigail has become more interested in essential signs, metaphors or archetypes that speak to us all as a humans and the transpersonal, interdependent or energetic layers of being. This new way of working, trying to find the balance between the planned and spontaneous, provides a new challenge, dimension and new artistic techniques to the development of Abigail’s work. These paintings are made on 600gsm Fabriano paper using watercolour, oil, oil pastel and other media. They trace some of the development in perspective that have taken place in Abigail’s personal life over the last few years, but the invitation is for them to be read on the viewer’s personal connection with the work, as well as on the level of collective human experience.
