Eva Ullrich & Tom McDonagh
BIOGRAPHY
Collaboration between painter Eva Ullrich and light artist Tom McDonagh.
Eva Ullrich uses painting's inherent language as a platform to create landscapes. Instead of being literal depictions, her work captures the essence of specific places or natural events. At the RSA Scottish New Contemporaries Exhibition in 2012 she won the Stevenston Award for a painter of merit and from that she was one of six young artists selected to exhibit in GENERATION 2014.
Tom works with light to create story-telling experiences, both large and small. As a scientist by training, Tom uses his expertise from building microscopes to develop new ways to project and perform with light. These new techniques are integrated with traditional art forms such as shadow theatre and mechanical automata. He often re-purposes old optical technologies using modern insights into light.
