ABOUT
JeoungHee Kim is a South Korean artist based in Paris and Brussels. His intricate glass sculpture is an attempt to communicate the intense fascination with water that he has had since he was a child and how it moves and is contained within shapes. He studied art, environment, ceramics and glass in Korea before moving to Europe in 2010. He studied sculpture at degree and masters level at the at the Beaux Arts Royal Academy in Brussels, before gaining a second masters degree in fine art at the Pantheon-Sorbonne university in Paris. His first solo exhibition was at the Korean Cultural centre in Brussels in 2015. Also a professor of calligraphy, Kim has won many awards for his art, his first at the age of twelve: awarded second place in a calligraphy competition in Korea. He went on to be selected or awarded prizes 16 times in his career, including selection for the Young Belgian Artists section of the Affordable Art Fair Brussels in 2017 with his glass sculpture.
JeoungHee uses a ‘cold’ glass sculpting technique, chipping away with hand tools to create beautiful textures on the edges on a surface meticulously molded together, often with either colour or pearl essence laid in between the layers of glass. His works range from small pieces to large installation works.
