Joanna is a writer & editor, working in the publishing industry for twenty years. She is also a Creative Writing Lecturer, at the University of the Arts, London.
Her work is published in 'Dark Mountain', 'Dazed & Confused', 'The Los Angeles Times', 'The Nation', 'The New Statesman', 'Orion Magazine', 'The Times Literary Supplement', 'The Spectator' and '3:AM', among others. Joanna's book length essay 'Surrender' won the 2018 Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize. It is a narrative non-fiction work about the American West, which was published in the UK by Fitzcarraldo Editions in May 2019 and in September 2019 by House of Anansi in Canada. The US edition was also published by House of Anansi in April 2020. A French edition was published by Mémoire d'encrier in 2021. And a Spanish edition with Errata Naturae was published March 7, 2022. Joanna has become a good friend of ours since meeting in 2017 on the life-changing stone age-living course "Living Wild" with Lynx Vilden, as well as one of Abigail's creative writing teachers. We instantly connected and have been close ever since, exchanging lengthy letters, discussing environmental solutions and alternative ways of living. Joanna's journey through the midwest, described in her book Surrender, is inspiring and eye-opening. |
